‘Leila’ to hit your weekend playlist

ifilm English TV is set to screen ‘Leila’ by prominent Iranian director Dariush Mehrjoui Saturday night.

The weekend offering will come to you at 22:00 GMT tonight and it will be repeated the next day at 04:00, 10:00 and 16:00 all GMT times.

‘Leila’, as put by ifilm website, is about a couple Leila and Reza who have just found out they will never be able to conceive a baby.

Reza's mother, an old-fashioned woman desperate for a grandchild, starts putting pressure on Reza to marry another woman, and even manages to get Leila to ignore her feelings and agree to the marriage.  

Real life actor couple Leila Hatami and Ali Mosaffa play couple in the movie.  

Late veteran actress Jamileh Sheykhi plays the role of the mother-in-law with Shaqayeq Farahani starring as the second wife.

The 110-min drama has been acclaimed at the 15th Fajr Film Festival in Iran in 1997. Jamileh Sheykhi succeeded to grab Crystal Simorgh Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role while Leila Hatami received the Diploma of Honor for the Best Actress in a Leading Role.
